In her latest project, Italian fashion designer Francesca Castagnacc has designed hats and shoes that make use of fiber optics to illuminate the wear and add more beauty to it’s aesthetics – perfect for ladies.
The idea of the concept is primarily based upon the optical effects that are created with the light reflected from the fibres and leds intergrated in the fabrics of the items. The Luminex concept or else Photonic fabrics is the ‘new focus’ of electronic firms, medical companies anf fashion houses, who are all busy with developing and working with fabrics that combine photonic with material technologies.
The interesting part of fashion is the mechanism according to which the fibers itself do not light up rather they require a LED on each end such that the illuminated light is allowed freely to travel within the fiber and create a pleasing effect.
The fiber optics technology has been used for long by the electronics industry but it’s inception into the fashion industry is what opens up new doors to innovation. If you want to see this in action, fire-up MTV and you will likely find Katty Perry or Lady Gaga wearing this already.
